Welcome to Aransas Bay Birding Charters. Rockport/Fulton's premier on the water photography and bird watching eco tour company. Captain Kevin has been on the water here since 1972 when his father built a small cabin on an island in Ayers Bay. He has been watching the Whooping Cranes ever since. At that time there were only 56 Whooping Cranes. According to recent winter surveys there are 504 Whooping Cranes. In 2002 Captain Kevin purchased a boat, The Jack Flash, and obtained his Coast Guard license. Aransas Bay Birding Charters was born and he began to take people out on photography/nature tour adventures. The business grew and expansion was necessary. His wife Lori was the logical and best choice for an additional Captain. In 2013 Captain Lori obtained her license and built her boat, The Lady Lori.
Captain Kevin has been fishing and birding in the Aransas Bay systems for 45 years. Kevin's family had a small fishing cabin on Ayers dugout in Ayers Bay. Ayers bay is adjacent to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Traveling to and from the fishing cabin by boat Kevin's father would point out the birds especially the majestic Whooping Crane. After high school Kevin joined the Air Force. He would spend his 30 days of leave each year at home on the bays where he grew up. After leaving the Air Force he bought Aransas Bay Birding Charters in 2003. Captain Kevin has been taking people out on his boat, The Jack Flash, for photography and birding ever since. Captain Kevin took up photography in 2004 and has developed a passion for capturing the best images he can. Captain Kevin and Captain Lori were married in 1995 and have raised 5 amazing children and have 5 amazing grandchildren and another on the way! In 2013 the business had grown to a point that a second boat was needed.
Captain Lori grew up in Southern Central Oklahoma, the youngest of 5 children, and was always right along side of her father, helping him with any task. As a result, when she married Captain Kevin in 1995, boating, birding, fishing have always been high on the list of things to do with the family. From the first trip to the Rockport/Fulton area, she immediately fell in love with the laid-back way of life and with the beauty and wildlife that the Aransas Bay system provides. When the need for a second boat came up not only did Captain Lori want to be the operator, she was instrumental in the design and building of her boat, The Lady Lori, courtesy of the teaching of her father and Kevin's faith in her ability. Captain Lori enjoys meeting the birders and photographers from around the world and absolutely loves being able to show them our beautiful part of the Texas Coast.
